Collection: Hummingbirds

This smallest of small birds can hover in mid-air with its rapid wing beats making a humming sound.  It can fly at speeds of over 34 miles/hour and is the only bird that can fly backwards. (Wikipedia)

At least fifteen types of these colorful birds are living in the United States but finding their nests can be a challenge.  Hummingbirds are masters at camouflaging their nests, making them almost impossible to spot. (American Bird Conservancy, abcbirds.org)
