Northern Saw-whet Owl
Northern Saw-whet Owl
Low stock: 4 left
Similar in size to a robin, Northern Saw-whet Owls, whose main source of food is mice, range in size from 7-8 inches long and 2.3-5.3 ounces in weight. Their wingspan can reach up to 19 inches. These owls are forest birds and breed across northern North America. They winter in the warmer, dense forests of the central and southern United States. Surprisingly, they can cross large bodies of water when migrating. In 1999 one landed on a fishing vessel 70 miles from shore in the Atlantic Ocean near Montauk, New York.
