Small in size, big in character. Gene Irvin painted these two Mexican Lookdown Fish in loose ink line work and soft watercolor washes — their distinctive laterally compressed silver bodies and elongated fins rendered with the same careful observation he brought to every subject, from the largest eagle to the smallest fish. Inscribed “Mexican Lookdowns” in Gene's own hand, this tiny original is presented in an ornate antique gold beaded frame with a deep burgundy mat that gives it a jewel-box quality.

This is not a print. This is the original, one-of-a-kind artwork — drawn and painted by hand, signed by the artist, and ready to display.

About the Mexican Lookdown:
The Mexican Lookdown (Selene brevoortii) is a striking species of carangid fish found in the warmer waters of the East Pacific, from Baja California to Peru. Its highly compressed, almost disc-shaped silver body and dramatically elongated dorsal and anal fin filaments make it one of the most visually distinctive fish in Pacific coastal waters. A prized catch for sport fishermen and a favorite subject for marine artists.
