Barred Owl Tote Bag | Wildlife Art by Gene Irvin (1934–2026)
Carry the woods with you. This tote bag features Gene Irvin’s pen, ink, and watercolor portrait of the Barred Owl — perched deep in dark woodland branches, red autumn berries nearby, those distinctive dark eyes staring straight back at you. Mottled brown and white plumage rendered in Gene’s characteristic stippled style, signed February 2000.
Barred Owls inhabit the wooded river bottoms, swamps, and mature forests of the South and Pacific Northwest. Active at dawn and dusk, they hunt small mammals and are best known for their resonant baritone call — “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?” — a familiar sound in southern wetlands. Fossil evidence places them in North America at least 11,000 years ago.
