The American kestrel, commonly known as the sparrow hawk, is the smallest and most colorful of the falcons found in North America. Its predatory nature is exemplified by its diet of mostly insects, along with small rodents and birds, and it obtains its prey by perching on wires or poles or hovering into the breeze, flapping its wings and adjusting its lengthy tail for stability.
